NAR Code of Ethics
NAR's Code of Ethics, adopted in 1913, was one of the first codifications of ethical duties adopted by any business group. The Code ensures that consumers are served by requiring REALTORS® to cooperate with each other in furthering clients' best interests.
- NAR's Board of Directors approved a change to the Code of Ethics training requirement, extending it from every two years to every three years.
- REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®.
- Training may be completed through NAR’s online courses or through another method, such as online or classroom courses via local/state associations.
Current Cycle: Cycle 7 (2022-2024)
The current deadline by which all REALTORS® and Appraisers must take the training is December 31, 2024. If you have not taken the NAR Code of Ethics course within the years of 2022-2024, you are required to take the course to be compliant.
- The Texas Real Estate Commission Legal II course required to renew your license no longer satisfies the NAR requirement for REALTOR® Code of Ethics training. This change was adopted by the NAR Board of Directors in 2019.
- The Texas REALTORS® Association has recently changed their membership platform and the mandatory NAR COE (Cycle 7) must be posted prior to December 31, 2024, to avoid interruption in local, state and national membership benefits.
Please remember that you must complete the NAR Code of Ethics training by December 31, 2024.
